Well, what a fun packed couple of hours it has been since I last blogged on faithful followers! And a complete change of scenery. I now sit in the beautiful city of Adelaide, in the home of the fabulous Heggie family who are my generous hosts for the next 12 nights! (well 11 as I have had one already)
But how did I get here? That is the story I shall now tell....
When I left you last I was sitting on the balcony in the middle of a race track taking my final look at the Ocean at Surfers. I managed to pull myself away (and my earplugs out) and finished my packing, said goodbye to the lovely Ben (who greeted my suggestion of 'maybe you should just warn people of the disruption this race thing causes, just in case the aren't the sort of people who like to get away from their normal peaceful life and move in to a flat above a construction site, all be it one with a magnificent vista.....) with a smile and 'yeah, maybe'.
Now it was time to meet the shuttle bus, which I told you previously wasn't able to be quite so door to door as door to another hotel down the road door. It turned out to be a bit of an adventure (as it was always going to be for me). The detours in place were also for the footpaths so I was left to drag my holdall and hand luggage over tram tracks, grass verges, pot holes, along the track and finally coming to rest on a traffic island in the middle of the road as the handle fell off. Yep, I was left to drag a decidedly wonky and full case the final 1/4 km to the place the coach was meeting me. To say I was not really impressed would be understating it, although I kept my cool, put my head down, wiped the sweat from my tache and carried on.
There was some light relief on the way to the airport as a young boy behind me said to him mum 'Where is buggery?' Silence. 'Mum where is buggery' Cough. 'Why do you ask dude (she said)' Cough. 'Well on the back of that van it says follow me if you want to go to buggery'. Silence. 'So where is it then?' Nothing until, 'never you mind it's somewhere you never want to go'. Priceless, you gotta love a Wicked Camper!! When I arrived at the airport all thought of complaining to the coach company desk had passed and I checked in for my flight and had myself a little box of noodles (the little cardboard boxes with handles are sooooo cute).
Time to board knowing that I just under three hours I would be meeting up with the wonderful girls for 12 days of fun in beautiful Adelaide. My second home.
Once in my seat I was joined by a lovely guy and his son who (Steve and Keiron) who sat and chatted all the way through the flight, we had lots in common especially our love of travel and the fact he lived in Happy Valley and I knew where that was!!! So we chatted about all the local Adelaide sights over a beer (he paid!) and as we said we may well bump into each other over the next week or so (and his lovely wife and other son too, don't get your hopes up like I did!) we landed.
Carrie was coming to meet me, but when you arrive at Adelaide it is a bit like a bus terminal. You just bimble in, pick up your bags and that's it, so I somehow managed to miss her! Next thing I know is I see them all going through security to meet me (Carrie, Helen, Tracey, Jen, and Sarah) so I daintily call over the concourse in only the way I know, and before long we were all hugging and laughing and OMG'ing to our hearts content! Sarah and Jen, girls when I had last seen them, had turned into stunning young women. And the beautiful ladies had just got more beautiful with age!
I feel so at home in Adelaide. It just feels right. And as we drove through the streets to Carrie's (or Jen (Carrie's 17year old daughter) did, very well indeed I must say too, it was all coming back to me. It was just a shame Theresa and Abi couldn't have come too.
So when we got to the gorgeous chez Heggie it was time to settle into my room, every little detail thought of by Carrie, then tuck into a lovely Thai green curry and catch up on the last 2 years.
Lots of plans were made and before long it was time to fall into bed before staring afresh tomorrow.
And I am now at the end of that tomorrow, but more about that in my next post.
So until then my friends it's time for bed. Sleep tight.....
TTFN xx
