Hellooooooo!! Have you missed me!!?? Sorry it has been a while but fear not I have been enjoying myself!! Just had an amazing weekend in a beautiful place with no wifi (I know, how rude!) and despite the fact that I love my fb and my blog, it was quite nice!!
So, when we last spoke I was getting ready for this weekend, so here it is.....
The Girls (aka Carrie, Helen, Tracey, Sue and Mandy) had arranged a sneaky little trip away whilst I am over and had plumped for a beach house in Aldinga. So, Carrie and I headed off after filling the car with enough snacks and booze to feed and water a cruise around the Med for a fortnight, made the fairly short drive to Aldinga. We were meeting Mandy and Sue who were able to sneak away early and Helen and Tracey were joining us later.
We arrived and had to pick up the keys down the road and there they were. It was sooooooo good to see them and we were soon catching up after the initial high pitched scream and run down the road!
The view was stunning, crystal blue waters in so many different shades, little rocky outcrops and a beach that you can still drive onto. We still had an hour to pick up the keys so we decided to grab some lunch and have a mooch down to the house to check it out from the outside. Gorgeous. Fab. Stunning. I could go on. Shame the same could not be said for the little place that we chose to eat in. The name should have given it away 'Aldinga Indian Café Fish n Chips'. Mmmmmm. Not. Anyway I will not dwell on that but the fact that it was the only place in walking distance made it the only choice. Plenty 5 mins away but we just couldn't be bothered to make the journey! I spent the time saying 'if I lived here I would open a fab little beach café , la la la la la la ' etc. Big dreams everytime I visit this country.....
Then a little walk on the beach which started well and ended up being a bush walk to avoid the seaweed (Carrie, not just me) and we went native for about 2 miles only to end up 100 yards further up on the beach (that maybe a slight exaggeration but that is what it felt like....)
Then it was time to get into our gaff, and it was beautiful. Light, airy, amazing views and the perfect place to chill and have fun.
Now, we did what most of us do on a weekend away, cracked open a beer and just started to chill. Helen and Tracey soon arrived and we chose our rooms (I got the one with the beachside view, thank you girls) and decided on fish and chips for tea (thankfully not from the Indian place, eeewww).
Sunset, fish and chips, stunning seaview, wine and friends. It does not get better. The sunset was approaching and I had the idea to get a shot of us all from behind facing out to the sunset. Very arty. Carrie and Sue both had good cameras so it was down to them to set up the tripod and set timers etc, while the rest of us posed and got ready. Well the sun was setting quite rapidy and the camera set up malarkey was taking a while so with shouts of 'don't bother look at the sun, look at the sun' which soon became 'look at the sky look at the sky' the picture was finally taken and the weekend cathphrase was born....(admittedly this may not seem funny, reading it in your pj's before breakfast, or at work whilst trying to not let your boss see what you are doing, but believe me, in real life with booze inside you and good friends around it was hysterical! You trust me don't you? Then trust me on that....)
And then the night began. It would take a while to explain all we did, and as mentioned before maybe not as funny for you reading as for us doing, but the in short the night ended at 3am after grown up discussions, sofa jumping, cocktails, wine, more cocktails, a cheese plate with Traceys beetroot dip (something Helen may not be able to eat again), military planning for a 'spontaneous' photo, bed jumping, falling of beds, bra's being used for things never inteneded and photographed in more poses that you could imagine (unfortunately no pics from my camera as I was in most of the shots), shots of Cowboy spat back into glasses, laughs, thinking we were ready for bed only to find we weren't and carriying on for another hour, more laughs, more dink and finally bed. Awesome.
The morning started at brunch time. We all surfaced and sat drinking in the stunning late morning sun, laughing and cringing at the photo's, retrieving our bra's from every corner of the house, and on realising Helen was not up yet, found she had sucummed to the demons of the drink and was destined to be sharing her time between bed, the toilet and finally the floor till much later in the day...
So the rest of us upped and took ourselves back to the beautiful beach where families had come together to enjoy the beautiful Saturday. That is what Oz is all about. It is so beautifutl and had so many things that can be enjoyed at little or no cost but give you memories to last a lifetime. We wandered in and out of the surf, took another fab shot (that a passing man who we decided didn't look like he would run away with Sue's expensive camera, sorry to all the other people who passed who we did not trust....) of us running into the sea. Shot of the day.
Then back to the house as Mandy, Sue and Tracey had to leave after just one fab night, leaving Carrie and I to take care of Helen (by 'take care of I obviously mean take the piss out of...). We headed out to the local Coles to by some more provusions (the small food mountain was just not enough) and made a cheeky post drinking stop at Maccy D's where I enjoyed a rather nice and suprising grilled chicken burger and frozen Sprite. Nom.
Back to the house and by 6.30pm Helen finally got out of bed! We then decided to enjoy the rest of the night pointing and the sun and the sky shrieking 'look at the sky, look at the sky' (you had to be there again) and watching another stunner of a sunset. Takeaway pizza and pasta was ordered and eaten and by 11pm we were tucked back up in bed with not a drop of alcohol passing our lips. Rock and Roll baby....
We had to be out by 10am the next morning and after clearing up and discovering a bruise on Helen's chin as a reminder of the previous day (I told you there was falling over....) we decided to head out to te beautiful wine region that is on the doorstep, McClaren Vale via a little Sunday market (think WI market back in England), the most amazing bakery where we sat outside with all our purchases drinking coffee and chatting, then we just walked past a place that a friend had recommened to Helen, the Cease and Sekkle. Incredible!!! Completely filled with retro furniture inside and out, sooooo funky and great atmosphere. A return visit booked as we only stopped for a dink and a cuddle with a gorgeous dog!
We meandered around the McClaren Vale, decdicing where to stop for lunch, which was a new concept for 3 women who like to be decisive! As always we plumped for the first one we went to (but had left and travelled around a hell of a few more) and Ekhidna wines it was. And what a choice. Came here on my last trip and it was just as fab, cool, funky and chilled and the food rocked. There was a massive group of men on a wine tasting and on an attempt walk past them looking sexy and confident on my way to the toilet I slipped on a wet patch and ended up on my face. Smooth.
So food eaten, pride put back together and wine tasted and bought it was time to head home. What a great time we had.
But the night didn't end there, as we got back to chez Carrie, the sky began to get spooky and the sunset looked incredible so we decided to all jump in the car and head to the beach as it was evident a storm was brewing. And blood hell what a storm. The most incredible lightening display I have ever seen and the atmosphere on Seacliffe beach was electric (excuse the pun!) I will post pic later as it really was amazing. Been on the news and everything! Hopefully the video will upload too....
So wet through and very happy it was home to the biggest pie I have ever seen that Carrie bought in the shop in Aldinga, and then bed.
And here I sit, the kids are at school, Carrie and Graham at work and I have the day, and the very cute Fiat 500 car, to myself and am off to explore.
Missed you all and wont leave it so long so until tonight....
TTFN xx
This so made me laugh, and I could imagine all you said and did:-) xx
